This is perhaps the worst part about reading news of the apocalypse everyday. With all these references to the 1930s, you think someone would bother to see what actually happened. But none of this is about economics. Green energy initiatives, for example, don't "create" jobs; they reallocate capital - they move jobs. Obstructing trade makes people poor, but it appeases certain constituencies in the near-term.
